Sometimes, you’ll find things online that upset you or make you uncomfortable, particularly if you’re using social media (which you can learn more about in the social media section). This may include inappropriate materials, like violent content or pornography.

In these cases, there are a few things you can do:

  • Discuss it: If you know the person in real life, reach out and let them know that the content really bothered you. Help them understand why you found it offensive, and they just might remove it and rethink what they share online in the future.
  • Ignore it: You can scroll past and forget it.
  • Remove it: You can block, unfollow, or unfriend the person who shared this content. This will keep you from having to see their stuff in the future.
  • Report it: If the shared information breaks the apps’ terms of use (community rules) or if it has illegal content, like child pornography, you should report it to the app. They will remove the content and possibly ban the person from future interactions. This is a great approach to use when you see an obvious scam.
